The Truth About Passive Income
And Why Website Templates Are One of the Smartest Plays for Creatives
Let’s talk about passive income.
Because let’s be honest... most of what’s out there?
It’s not actually passive.
People will tell you to start a YouTube channel, write a book, build a course, launch a podcast, learn affiliate marketing, post more content, start a newsletter, sell a digital download, and create ten income streams by Friday.
And while I love a good multiple income moment...
If you're a creative entrepreneur or designer, there's one passive income strategy that most people overlook.
Website templates.
Yes, the thing you’ve probably designed for clients, sent off, and never thought twice about.
That same skill can become a scalable, high-converting, revenue-generating machine.
And it can run while you're sleeping, traveling, launching other offers, or literally doing nothing.
Let me break it down.
Here’s how it all started for me.
It was summer 2019.
I had only worked with a handful of design clients.
But I saw a massive gap in the market.
There were no beautiful, strategic, soulful website templates that actually made brands feel elevated and unique (especially at an affordable price).
So I got to work.
I spent that summer designing four website templates from scratch.
And yes it took time. But if you’ve ever designed websites before, or if you have The Library, it would take you a fraction of the time.
But I wasn’t just designing.
I was building my brand at the same time.
That’s the part people miss.
If you just launch a template shop with no audience, no anticipation, and no strategy, you’ll hear legit crickets. And I did NOT want crickets!
So I showed the entire process on Instagram. Behind the scenes. Sneak peeks. Polls of which template they liked the most.
I built a waitlist.
I built excitement.
I built demand.
And when I launched?
$20,000 in sales.
And the best part?
Once the templates were done, I didn’t have to do anything else.
I didn’t have to onboard clients, do client calls, edits, back and forth communication, deliverables, etc.
I created the templates once, and they kept selling.
Day after day. Week after week. Month after month.
That’s what real passive income looks like.
Why website templates work so well for passive income:
You design once and sell it forever
You don’t have to trade your time for money
You get to create a product you actually love
You can use the exact same skills you already have
You can build demand while you build the product
You don’t need a big team or budget to get started
Templates are the creative’s version of a digital goldmine.
I could write an entire list of template shop opportunities I can spot in the market.
Comment if you want this.
